We all know that good things have to come to an end, and Windows 7 is no exception.

Come January 2020, Windows 7 end-of-life will begin.

What does Windows 7 end-of-life actually mean?

Well, starting January 14, 2020, Windows 7 will cease to have support. End of support encompasses three main areas: technical support, software updates, and security updates. All of those things will no longer be available for the Windows 7 platform.

Even though January 14, 2020 is the official “End-of-Life” for Windows 7, mainstream support for the platform actually ended back in January of 2015. End of mainstream support just encompassed the expiration of warranty claims and the ceasing of the addition of new features.

What Windows 7 is in right now is something called “extended support.”

What this extended support means is that the Windows 7 operating system has been patched up as well as it can be and updated enough to make sure security issues and bugs can still be fixed. However, you still can’t access Microsoft’s new features or upgrades.

While there seemingly may be more pressing matters than upgrading Windows 7 at this juncture since you still have “extended support” for the program, it’s a good idea to start getting a plan together and change over your system as soon as possible.

Why have a plan to upgrade beyond Windows 7 for your business?

Just because you can continue to use Windows 7 now, or even after January 2020 without support, doesn’t mean you should.

The most major issue with that delay is security.

Without support, there will be no easy way for you to fight any viruses or get any help from Microsoft regarding any other security problems. You could become a target to cyber threats and be putting your whole business at risk.
