Planning and Process Questions

We self-migrated to Office 365 a while back and aren’t sure it was done correctly. Can you audit our migration?
Yes, Solution Builders can audit an Office 365 tenant against our best practices and make recommendations based on what we find.
Should we migrate to a private cloud solution, or should we consider a public cloud solution?

In our experience, there are two driving factors when considering private cloud or public cloud. The first one is the nature of the data you are storing. If you are storing highly regulated data, such as PCI, HIPAA or FINRA data, it may sway your decision one way or the other. The second is budget. Private cloud is far more costly both to deploy and to use on a regular, ongoing basis.

Should we still be running our on-premise Exchange server?
We can think of very few scenarios where it makes sense to continue to run an on-premise Exchange server. Office 365 is a very robust and mature solution and, in fact, we haven’t deployed any on-premise Exchange for over 8 years now.

Cost and Business Questions

How much does it cost to migrate to Office 365 from an on-premise Exchange server?
Labor costs vary project by project, but if you wanted a budget amount and your organization had around 50 staff members, we would recommend budgeting somewhere around $7,500.00 for the migration. Even though the actual mailbox migration is straightforward, the pre-migration planning and post-migration clean-up steps take a considerable amount of time.
What if something goes wrong during migration?
We have backup plans for every migration step. If problems occur, we can roll back changes. Your data is protected throughout the process. We’ve handled every type of migration issue and know how to fix problems quickly.
How do we know if we're ready for cloud migration?
Most businesses are ready if they have reliable internet. We assess your current setup during planning. We identify any issues that need fixing first. Our assessment tells you exactly what needs to happen for a successful migration.

Will we have downtime during migration?
We minimize downtime by migrating over weekends. Email might be unavailable for a few hours. We can set up temporary systems if you need zero downtime. Most businesses experience less than 4 hours of disruption.
Can we migrate some users first as a test?
Yes, we often do pilot migrations with small groups. They test everything before we move everyone else. This reduces risk and builds confidence. Pilot groups help identify any issues early.
Do I have to change the domain name our company uses for email?
Generally, no, you do not need to change your domain name during an Office 365 migration (unless you want to change it).
